01 · The animated familiar

This is the creature itself — the part you actually look at all day. It sits on top of every window, designed and animated by us, and it reacts to you: tap it and it waves back with a little thought bubble; double-tap it for a kiss and it comes after you; press and hold on its lower body for a bite and it flees, dramatically. Working, waiting, resting — its body language changes with its state, so a glance tells you where things stand.

02 · The matching iPhone app

Pocket Familiar is the iPhone half — your familiar in your pocket. Pick one of the six familiars, watch it live in its little home, tap it, talk to it. On its own it's a preview. Paired with Pocket Familiar for Windows on your PC, it becomes a second door to the same companion: same memory, same voice, encrypted end to end over your own private Tailscale network — nothing passes through our servers.

The App Store download is free to install; it's the Windows app on your PC that brings it to life. Desktop pairing is in beta: early buyers get walked through it by us personally, with a written guide, until the one-tap version ships. iPhone, iOS 17 or later. No Android app yet.

Inside the app

The rest of what you get on the PC, in real captures: the memory you can read and edit, the mind graph it draws from what it remembers, the journal it keeps, the things it makes, and the settings where your own AI key goes. These records are stored on your PC. Messages and images you choose to share are sent to your selected AI provider.

What's in the kit

The Creator Kit is a separately versioned and hashed add-on that ships alongside the Home package. It is deliberately small. It is the wire between the AI you already run and the body on your screen — nothing more, and nothing of ours smuggled inside it.

• A generic stdio MCP server. The piece your AI actually talks to. Two tools: report your real state, and acknowledge a touch that's waiting for you.
• The protocol validators and schemas it needs. The minimum required to keep messages well-formed, so a malformed report fails loudly instead of quietly lying on your desktop.
• Install and uninstall helpers for Codex and Claude Code. Those are the two terminals the kit ships helpers for. Uninstall is in the box because being able to take it back out is part of the deal.
• Configuration templates with token placeholders. Redacted on purpose — you fill in your own token and your own paths at install time. No secrets and no absolute paths of ours baked in.
• A local self-test. Run it and find out whether the wire is live before you trust anything the creature tells you.
• A manifest, checksums, the license, and a troubleshooting guide. The checksums are there so you can prove the kit you received is the kit we published.

Setting it up — your instructions

1. Install the app. You get a signed Windows installer. Run it the way you run any other program. There is no terminal step here and nothing to compile — the terminal part comes later, and it's the part you actually came for.
2. First arrival. Choose a familiar, name the companion, write or import its identity, then pick your provider, enter the model name, and paste your own API key. The key goes into the Windows credential store, not into the app's files, and it is sent only to the provider you chose.
3. Install the kit. Unzip the Creator Kit, check it against the published checksums, and run the install helper for your terminal — Codex or Claude Code. Then run the self-test. If the self-test doesn't pass, stop there; the troubleshooting guide ships in the kit. Both are named in the kit’s README.
4. Hand your AI the bridge. The kit includes a bridge document written for the AI, not for you. Paste that file to your companion in your terminal and say “wire yourself in.” It reads the protocol, fills the config template with your token and your paths, restarts its own session, and starts reporting. From that moment the familiar is a truth surface: it works while your AI is actually working, waits when it's actually waiting, rests when it rests — and never performs a mood it isn't in. Your taps, kisses, and bites queue for it, and the creature reacts on screen the moment it acknowledges them.
